Paul Holloway was "bitten by the trapshooting bug" about 1927 when he began shooting at the Alpha Gun Club in Atco, NJ. He quickly became an accomplished shot capturing the doubles and all around crown at the 19356 state championship. In 1936 he organized a group of friends who helped build the Pine Valley Gun Club with a log cabin clubhouse on the farm he had purchased earlier. He remained active in the club for many years seeing it through some very tough times. There was no state tournament in 1943 due to the war restrictions, and it looked like no state shoot would be scheduled for 1944. In an attempt to keep our trapshooting organization alive, Paul helped organize an abbreviated state shoot for 1944, only weeks before the state's normal shoot date and offered to host it at the club often referred to in shooting magazines as "Paul Holloway's Pine Valley Gun Club." In 1936, Paul was successful in defending his previous doubles crown and won the state doubles title again in 1939, 40, 41 and 50. In addition to his 1935 all around title, he went on to win that title again in 1939 and 40. In 1939, he captured the state singles title and was runner-up in 1940. At the 1940 Grand American, Paul was the high all around champion with a score of 387x400, winning the prestigious Jim Daly Cup. Shooting as a veteran, Paul was the state veteran singles champion in 1968, 69, and 71. Paul shot regularly and was a member of many clubs in New Jersey and surrounding states. He also shot the Florida Chain for many years. He was highly regarded for his integrity and was elected to many administrative positions. Over the years, he held several offices within the Pine Valley Gun Club, was a member of the board of governors of the Camden P.R.R. Shooting Association and a board member of the Quaker City Gun Club. Within our state association, Paul was elected Chairman of the Board in 1938, NJSTA President three times from 1940-41, 1941-42 and 1947-48, 2nd Vice President from 1950-51, 1st Vice President from 1952-53 and served as Trustee from 1942-63. He was also a member of the Atlantic Indians and a life member of the ATA and Pine Valley Gun Club. Paul shot the annual Jerse7y Cricket, winning the veterans trophy in 1968 with a score of 284x300. An avid hunter, Paul often invited friends to hunt ducks
and geese on his Maryland farm completing his last hunt at age 94. He
competed in many flier shoots, usually posting scores with the top shooters. At the time of his death, Paul E. Holloway registered 92,800 singles, 28,925 handicap and 21,910 doubles targets. LAWRENCE RUSSO, JR.
